Two Circuit Monorail System

WAC Duorail is engineered for more capacity and control, with two circuits that can be independently controlled. This allows you to have separate switches or dimmers for lights on the same rail. It can be ordered pre curved or shaped in the field and designed and cut to navigate curves and angles for custom designs. Each circuit uses up to 300 watts at 12 volts or 600 watts at 24 volts. For large applications both circuits can be switched together for up to 1,200 watts at 24 volts. Single Circuit Monorail System WAC Solorail has been retired.

Design your rail.

  • Determine what you want to light.
  • Decide where track heads, pendants or both will be placed to direct light where you want it.
  • Design the Monorail run, connecting the lights.
    Monorail can be shaped to follow room architecture or create an organic shape.
    You can sketch out your room on paper. Draw in your lights, then decide how you want to design the track to suspend them.
    You could use string to lay out your design on the floor to determine your length, especially if you have an especially curvy run.

    Rail is available in connectable four or eight foot sections to be bent in the field as needed or used as a straight section. A bending machine is available to make smooth and consistent bends.
    All rail pieces are field-cuttable and bendable.
  • Connectors allow monorail to make sharp angles or join in a "T" or " x ."
  • Dead-End connectors allow you to switch and dim sections of rail separately.
  • Choose a finish; Brushed Nickel or Dark Bronze.

Determine your mounting.

  • Determine how far from the ceiling you would you like your rail to run.
    WAC Duorail Monorail can be installed nearly flush to the ceiling or hang up to 96".
  • Rail can be curved horizontally or vertically, to run up and down.
  • Rigid or cable suspensions mount to flat, suspended or sloped ceilings using standard, T-Bar or sloped ceilings standoffs.
  • Use 2 supports per 4 foot section and at least 3 per 8 foot section.
  • The total number of supports depends on the shape of the track layout.
  • The power feed counts as a support.
  • Systems with very unique shapes or many pendants may require additional supports.

Choose your lights.

  • Decide where the fixtures should be installed to put light where you want it.
  • Select from an array of low voltage track heads and pendants.
  • Extension stems can extend fixtures up to 48" from the track.
  • Pendants ship with 6' field cuttable cable.
  • Add optional colorful and decorative accessories and functional optical controls.

Select your transformer.

  • Add up the wattage from the lights you have chosen.
  • Choose 12 or 24 volt. 300 watts is the maximum load for 12 volt systems. 600 watts is the maximum load for 24 volt systems.
  • Select a visible surface mount transformer or a hidden remote transformer with power feed canopy.
  • Surface mount transformers install directly to a standard junction box.
  • Remote mount magnetic transformers have larger capacity. They can be installed further away, in an attic or closet.
  • Select your power feed if you are going to use a remote transformer.

Duorail system allows you the sleek, minimalist look of a low voltage monorail with the advantages of double the load capacity and two circuit switching control. An ideal choice for, residential and commercial applications.

WAC Duorail is a low voltage bendable two circuits track system. 2-Circuit Monorail allows individual fixtures to be independently switched or dimmed. Straight rail is ordered as a four or eight foot sections to be bent in the field as needed or used as a straight section. The rail is field cuttable and bendable by hand or with a bending tool. It can be designed and cut to navigate curves for custom designs.

Duorail is composed of four 2mm thick copper bus wires with a 1.5mm thick polycarbonate core. Each rail also includes two matching polycarbonate endcaps. It is only.25" x 11/16", the thinnest in the industry.

Maximum load carrying capacity of 600W at 12V and 1200V at 24V, with the ability to individually control each circuit.

Duorail Surface Mounted Transformers

Surface mount transformers mount to a junction box, due to their weight it is important that the box be adequately secured to the ceiling structure.

The maximum amperage of the rail is 50 amps (each circuit is 25 amps). You may run 600 watts on a 24 volt system (25 amps) or 300/600 watts on a 12 volt system (also 25 amps). Our 600 watt transformers are available in 12 or 24 volts. The 12 volt version has two outputs with 300 watts available at each.

Larger magnetic transformers have greater wattage capacities. There is a lesser degree of voltage drop in a magnetic transformer, making them a more practical choice for longer runs (see voltage drop guidelines).

Magnetic transformers generally contain less components making them among the most reliable power sources.

A magnetic transformer generally requires a low voltage dimmer specifically made for magnetic loads. However some of our remote magnetic transformers have the ability to be dimmed with standard incandescent dimmers.

Debuzzing coil

Inherent with all magnetic transformers is an audible buzz, mostly when dimmed. To lessen the noise, our surface mount transformers are supplied with a factory installed debuzzing coil (or choke).

Installing a Surface Mounted Transformer

  • The junction box will support the entire weight of the transformer, which may weigh up to 30 lbs.; make sure it is adequately braced and supported. It is recommended that two people install the transformer.
  • Extension wires are supplied to connect junction box wires to the transformer input wires. Connect white and grey neutral wire to white wire, and black and red hot wire to black wire with wire nuts. The ground wire may be green or bare copper, connect it to the green Extension wire.
  • Pass the open ends of the wires through the center hole of the cross bar/ threaded tube assembly, and mount to cross bar junction box as shown.
  • Open the transformer case by removing the four screws on the perimeter. The cover halves will separate but not detach, allow the lower half to hang temporarily.
  • Raise the transformer assembly on to the threaded tube and pass the ends of the wires through. Attach the heavy nut to the bottom of the tube and tighten so the transformer assembly is close to the ceilling.
  • Insert pin through hole on bottom of treaded tube to secure heavy nut to tube.
  • Connect the Extension wires to the transformer input wires, with wire nuts. Follow the previous color code.
  • Position the bottom cover so the power feed adapter is aligned to receive rail. Close the bottom cover and secure with the four secrews removed earlier.

Power Feed (if you choose a remote transformer)

Installing a Ceiling Power Feed

  • Position the transformer or power feed canopy, so the power feed adapters align with the rail.
  • Loosen the set screw in the adapter, so that there is sufficient clearence to slip the duo rail between the two halves.
  • Check the fit of the rail, to make sure it fits flat against the adapter channel. Complete contact is necessary for propper performance.
  • After the first 1/2 hour of operation, switch off and check connections for excessive heat or color distortion. Low voltage systems operate at higher amperage, which requires secure connections., A loose connection can lead to system damage and potential fire hazzard. Correct by tighteni ng, but do not over tighten. The recheck the hot spot to make certain it's corrected

Magnetic Duorail Remote Transformers

DuoRail system works with 12 or 24 volts, so transformers are available for either voltage. The maximum amperage of the rail is 50 amps (one circuit is 25 amps ). You may run 600 watts on a 24 volt system (25 amps) or 300/600 watts on a 12 volt system (also 25 amps). Our 600 watt transformers are offered in 12 or 24 volts. The 12 volt version has two outputs with 300 watts available at each.

Debuzzing coil

Inherent with all magnetic transformers is an audible buzz, mostly when dimmed. A debuzzing coil is an option on remote magnetic transformers. Debuzzing coils are installed between the switch and transformer on the black (hot) primary wire.

Installing a Remote Transformer

  • Locate the transformer as close as possible to the power feed point to minimize voltage drop.
  • Connect line voltage wires to their respective transformer input wires, (white to white & black to black).
  • Make ground wire connection.
    Note: Some remote transformers have integral enclosures with a green wire, if not, an enclosure is required. Establish a ground connection to the enclosure.
  • To wire secondary wires, first determine the appropriate THHN wire gauge size for the distance between the transformer and the junction box (see voltage drop guidelines). Run secondary wires from transformer to power in walls and ceilings should be enclosed type ie: BX, Romex, MC.
  • Select a knock out hole in the power fe ed canopy back plate.
  • Support the power feed canopy, and route wires from the canopy through the the knock out hole into the junction box.
  • Attach canopy wires to the transformer wires with wire nuts (supplied). Tuck wires back into the junction box.
  • Secure the base plate to the junction box, through the slotted holes.
  • Loosen the three screws on the canopy. Raise the power feed canopy to the base plate and partially tighten screws so that they support the weight of the canopy.
  • Rotate the canopy so the power feed adapter aligns with the rail, then fully tighten screws.
  • For locations where no junction box is present secure the back plate to the surface, and make wire connections in the canopy.
  • Note: Low voltage systems require firm connections at all points, to avoid abnormal heat conditions. A loose connection can lead to system damage and potential fire hazzard. Correct by tightening, but do not over tighten. Recheck the hot spot to make certain it's corrected.

All Quick Connect track head stems are available with standard stem lengths from 3" to 12" so they can be low profile or closer to the action.

Quick Connect fixtures all have a male adapter. With the appropriate adapter, they can be mounted on a variety of track, rail and surface mount systems.



WAC Quick Connect Pendants for Monorail

Wac Lighting Quick Connect Pendants can be used suspended from Solorail Monorail or 2-Circuit Duorail Monorail using the correct adapter. Because the monorail is 12 volt, no transformer is required.

Duorail Quick Connect Adapter LM2-QADP

Duorail system quick connect adaptor allows all quick connect elements (QF track heads or QP pendants) to be used with the LM2 system rail. The adaptor contains a threaded nipple for quick connect socket sets and attaches anywhere along the LM2 track. One adaptor must be ordered for each quick connect element used on a system.
