Trivia: What is a Tilley Lamp or Tilley Light?
In 1813 W.H.Tilley invented the hydro-pneumatic blowpipe. That's the thing you pump if you've ever used a kerosene lantern or a camp stove. He used this new technology to build kerosene pressure lamps. This was before electricity, so these lamps were in high demand.They didn't just look like camp lanterns.
Tilley Lamps were used by the British army during World War I. Tilley Lamp got to be the generic word for any kerosene lamp with a hydro-pneumatic blowpipe.
They don't look much like the Progress Lighting Tilley Collection to me.
